Why War Isn't Inevitable: A Science Writer Studies the Secret to Peaceful Societies

Biologically speaking, we are just as likely to be peaceful as we are to be violent. So what keeps humans bound by a seemingly never-ending cycle of war?

Sometimes it seems as if we can't get beyond the fighting, that it is an inevitable part of the human existence.

Some people don't think so. We don't, either.

A recent article at AlterNet reviewed a new book by journalist John Horgan that says otherwise. The description to End of War says,

Open Commenting Now Restored

We're happy to report that open commenting has been restored to all registered PeaceOptions users. To post a comment, first login to your free user account (or create one), and begin posting immediately.

In case you hadn't noticed, hackers had found a way to spam the comments with hundreds of commercial and other messages that we thought not only inappropriate, but extremely distracting from the conversations taking place there.

To combat that, we had to require all comments first go into an approval queue for review before posting. It was a slow, inconvenient and tedious process that interrupted the dialog we were all working so hard to have.

At the recent BarCamp Miami we learned about a possible way to stop it that we recently implemented. Now that we have, we're able to open the discussion again to our readers for unrestricted and uncensored posting.

Thanks for understanding. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or discontent our previous posting policy may have caused you.

You're Not Alone So Quit Trying to Get There By Yourself

Today we posted an article by John on our sister site MissionLaunch.com entitled You're Not Alone So Quit Trying to Get There By Yourself.

MissionLaunch is a place where awakening servers and others who try to make a difference can get help with the challenges that are holding them back.

What's an awakening server, you ask? That's the name we call those who are awakening to an inner voice that's urging them to add their contribution to a better world. You may know them by one of their many other names. New world servers. Lightworkers. Social entrepreneurs. Charitable volunteers. Coaches. Teachers. Healers. And a whole lot of others.

The Needs of the Many vs. Those of the Few or the One - PeaceOptions Dinner Thurs

Our dinner topic this week will revolve around a pithy statement by Mr. Spock in Star Trek -- "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one."

Do they really? Must we sacrifice self for the good of the whole? Is this really the future for humanity?

Or is there some way to honor individuality and the needs of the one, yet still serve the needs of the many?

This is the unstated issue behind our political wars, yet it is never debated, never considered, and especially never answered as to how those interests should be balanced.
