Creating a better life or world doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It takes place right here in the midst of all the chaos, conflict and control that buffet our daily affairs. Those who want to make a difference must somehow weave through the minefield of obstacles that block their way.
Answering an inner call to serve can be fraught with difficulty in the face of the onslaught of an outer world that can seem hell-bent on stopping us, not to mention the challenges of playing the hands life deals.
The awakening server can find himself or herself sorely tested to deal with it all and still remain in peace, much less move the mission forward.
Preoccupation or attachment with inner issues like success, self-image, expectation and judgment can make it all the more difficult and derail even the best intentions to change the world. Nevertheless, for the moment let’s assume all of those are sufficiently handled to allow one to focus upon the outer obstacles.
Again, it is helpful here to consider the world in energetic terms. Outer situations are demanding our attention, begging us to engage not only them but the consciousness behind their creation and involved in their unfolding.
Beneath the surface is a boiling, bubbling cauldron of emotions and interests. Yet the outer situation rarely does justice to giving them expression, much less the intentions and inner conditions hiding even deeper within the participants.
The outer problem the server seeks to address is simply a symptom of those unseen energies, a manifestation that begs the server to dig deeper in order to effect a solution or create a lasting peace. The road to deal with them is not only paved with obvious obstacles like finding the money and resources to deliver necessary services. The hidden ones are always lurking in the darkness, waiting to jump out and grab us or explode when the wrong button is pushed.
The server should realize that the effort at service, no matter how commendable or important to their lives or the state of the outer world, is far less important in the grand scheme of things than the possibility of self-expansion that it offers. It is therefore essential that the opportunity be seized consciously, with as much awareness of as many levels of those energetic interactions as can be mustered.
Challenges can come at us so rapidly and from so many different directions that we may feel like pinballs, bouncing off one obstacle after another with little time to regain our senses in between. It can be overwhelming.
Nevertheless, we must go on and negotiate the minefield as best we can. How we do so is up to us. Hopefully it will be immersed in peace, filled with light and wrapped in love. But inevitably most of us will fall somewhere along the way. In those moments, it becomes all the more crucial how we respond, to somehow pick ourselves up and continue on.
If we can, one day we’ll be able to look back in amazement at how far we’ve come and all we’ve accomplished along the way. Perhaps we may even find the greatest difference we will have made is within us and our ability to better recognize and deal with the complex energies of human relations.
This is the true test of a world in crisis — whether the myriad problems will make us shrink in horror, or spur us to grow into a greater expression of who we are and what we can be, so that we become a little more tomorrow than we are today.
I know you will meet this challenge. And when you do, I have no doubt you’ll leave the world a better place.
God bless you indeed.
