Join the PeaceOptions Challenge -- Council Minutes - 9/29/09

Today via teleconference Peace Options held its first director’s meeting. In attendance were Karl Nybergh, Jill Rosenthal, Tim Kellis, John Dennison and Laura Dennison.

The purpose of our meeting was to inspire others to do peaceful activities through Peace Options and Lightbearer’s Alliance. Karl, Jill, Tim and John are active Facebook users. So we went around the table throwing out ideas.

Laura mentioned that she thinks Peace Options and Lightbearer’s Alliance need to have a charitable focus. She spoke of her prior experience with an organization who got off to a terrific start but that organization ultimately failed because it lacked a charitable focus.

Tim had the idea about organizing and promoting a Peace Festival which was a great idea. The group agreed this was a long term idea that will be explored during a lunch committee meeting.

Karl spoke about his experience in South Florida where you see homeless people on street corners begging for money. Karl had the idea of donating change or a dollar bill to someone in need and write the word Peace on the coin or bill. Although it’s easy to write ‘peace’ on a dollar bill, it’s not as easy on a coin. However, Jill tested a Sharpie pen on a coin, the word ‘peace’ did not rub off on it. .

We thought we should start this idea in October. We decided October 3, 2009 would be our launch date. We have several names for the project like Peacegiving, Project Peace, People for Peace, Peace Bucks, and the Peace Process. What name do you like?

Jill suggests that we put something short and sweet on Facebook like the following:

Please join the Peace Options Challenge. Give whatever you can spare this month to someone less fortunate. Share this challenge with your friends. Remember to write the word peace on your coin or dollar and use a Sharpie.
