Where Does Peace Come From?

This is my first post and I thought I would take the time to share with you some revelations that have calmed my life and led to serene transitions away from the hustle and bustle of a hectic life.
I look around the world, see the news and wonder what the heck we are doing to each other. Many a day went by where I pondered how we can treat each other the way we do. Then I remembered I am only in charge of what “I” do. No matter what goes on around me, I am responsible for my own actions. For the way I react to situation, for the way I talk to people, for the very way I THINK.
THAT is where it all begins, with the thought processes involved.
As a Libertarian I truly believe that people do NOT have the right to initiate the use of force or fraud upon others. Yet everywhere I turn, someone is doing exactly the opposite. The government forces us by regulations and laws, bosses force us rules and regulations, people force their opinions on us. We argue, fight and try to stand up to defend ourselves. All to little or no avail.
If everyone lived by the one simple rule, none of the problems we witness in our day to day lives would exist. People would not rob others, people would not cheat others, people would not even yell at each other. Why, because if we all lived by this rule then everything would be done by voluntary consent. That is what a free and peaceful society is all about.
How I choose to view the world around me is up to me. I can see the good in it or the bad in it. Everyone has the same choice. The old saying that there are two sides to every story is so true. The trick is in finding the one that is right for you. When you read the story in the manner that satisfies you then you can live in peace with the decision you have made. Your conflicts come when you pick a side that you are actually against.
In politics, I keep telling people that we need to stop being “against” things and start being “for” something. It makes peaceful living attainable. So I don’t have to be “against” taxes; I am “for” people keeping their money. I am not “against” the government bailouts; I am “for” free markets. I am not “against” laws and regulations; I am “for” freedom.
Certainly I can go on and on down the list. You, the reader, can create your own list as well. When you do, you will see that the things you are “against” are what cause you problems as you try to “fight” them. On the other hand, the things you are “for” cause you no distress in your life at all. Simply begin choosing to be “for” something instead of “against” something will drastically improve the quality of your life.
Yours in Peace
