What a wonderful Thanksgiving our family had while visiting my sister and her family in New York City this past weekend. Firteen family members all lived peacefully and joyfully without any arguing or fighting while sharing 2 ½ bathrooms! It was miraculous! I have to admit before we left for New York, I said a prayer and asked that there would be no arguing between families on Thanksgiving Weekend. My prayers were answered, well almost.
In my prayer, I forgot to include my own family. On Saturday night, our son oldest son returned to Ft. Lauderdale so that he could be at his job, as a personal trainer, bright and early on Sunday morning. All was well until we received a call from him telling us that he could not find our car at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport Garage. Ft. Lauderdale’s airport garage is a maze of garages with different colors and names so that you can remember which garage you parked in. Our son worked late on Wednesday evening so a friend dropped him off at the airport. He had no memory of where we parked and his Father’s directions to the car did not help. My sister’s husband, came to the rescue. He often flies in and out of Ft. Lauderdale airport for business. He told us to let Jack know that Jet Blue had moved its terminal and it was no longer next to Continental. With this little piece of information, our son found the car and was no longer screaming on the telephone at the top of his lungs.
Notwithstanding our oldest son’s outburst, I am so grateful that both our sons are making their way in the world. Next May, Jack will be graduating from college with a degree in physical therapy and in August, Joe will be starting college with interest in Science and English. Both boy’s closets are filled to the brim with clothes, games and toys that they no longer use. For our family, now is a great time to de-clutter and donate all those unused games and toys for families in need this Christmas season.
For many Americans, Thanksgiving speeds into Christmas without much thought of how others will be spending their holiday. We at Peace Options want to thank all of you who have participated with our Peacegiving Project. We would like for you to consider a second project, that of donating items that you no longer use to a family in need or to the charity of your choosing for Christmas. We want you to report your donations on our Facebook website and the person or family with the most donations by January 31, 2010, will receive a copy of John’s book , Whispers in the Silence.
We wish you peace, love and miracles this Christmas season,
Laura and John
