No man is an island.  While we like to think off rugged individuality as our means of survival, in today’s complex world that’s nearly impossible.

How many can hunt or grow their own food?  Or build their own shelter?  Or provide any of the other necessities of life all on their own, without interacting with or depending on others at some point in the process?

Independence in the modern world may be the goal, but not at the expense of the benefits of banding together with others to survive the storms of life.  For instance, look how many adults were forced to move back in with their parents when jobs dried up and incomes dwindled during the COVID lockdowns?

Of course, you’re going to have to do it in a way that honors you and all you’ve become.  Just don’t turn your back on those you love or who love you, because they’re perhaps the only ones you can count on in a pinch.

If you don’t, the pinches of today could turn into the vises of tomorrow.
